Observing Changes ...

The children arrived at the school on Monday morning and immediately gathered around the display table looking and chatting about the painted butterfly chrysalises that seem to have changed over the weekend!

" Look , they are so much fatter and now they are hanging from the top of the container upside down!
" I think they are ready!"
" I know, this is when you move them to the net. I've done this before..."

Our morning meeting opening discussion was set for the day....

Alicia led the children in a discussion about this next stage of development that we were observing and explained that this is the time that the chrysalises are moved to the butterfly net.  The care involves simply carefully attaching them to the net and observing for the next 7-10 days.  When they turn into butterflies, we will need to add slices of oranges and /or drops of sugar water to a small piece of sponge for nourishment before releasing them.

The children were fascinated to see the chrysalises in their new home!
