Alicia brought two pet frogs, Scooby Doo and Billy to school today! The frogs had lived in our Early Childhood building with Alicia in the Little Frogs class and were looking for a new, loving home. Alicia introduced Scooby Doo and Billy at Morning Meeting and the children were so excited to have living creatures in our classroom . We talked about the importance of caring for the pets and the children unanimously asked that the frogs join our PreK family and live in our classroom!
We learned the few, very simple, respectful 'rules' surrounding care for the frogs. The children were overwhelmed with joy in watching the frogs move around the water! We learned that the frogs eat 'blood worms' for their nourishment and are fed every three days. Alicia showed us the blood worms which are kept frozen in small individual trays. The children were fascinated with the blood worms. Alicia demonstrated how to use a pipit, a scientific tool, to get water from the tank and to moisten the frozen blood worms. When the food was defrosted, the worms were carefully placed in the tank and we observed the frogs grasping the food and eating the worms! The children are very excited to welcome Scooby Doo and Billy to our classroom and join our family.
We are sure you will be hearing more about our class pets over the coming days! Stop by and welcome them to our class family as well!
