Beach Day Fun!!!

Prek 1 and PreK 2 thoroughly enjoyed beach day!  The children loved playing in the water and relaxing with their friends on their beach towels.  Our pictures capture the joy of the day...

Prek Loves The Fair!

What a beautiful day to go to a fair!  The children were excited about attending the 4th/5th grade fair  from the moment they arrived at school this morning !  The conversations ranged from plans they had about playing games at the fair to the types of face painting they were hoping to get.  The children welcomed Jane, one of the 5th grade teachers into our classroom as she 'sold' us the tickets for the fair.  They helped her count the tickets by 'tens' and enjoyed watching Alicia count the money.

The games, face painting , water ice , baked goods and especially the items sold at the 'junk table' were all so much fun to partake in!  The children loved the  feeling of  independence moving from one activity to another with friends and felt so 'grown -up' as they shared this experience with the older children in Lower School.

Building community , sharing our joys and celebrating Spring was a wonderful way to close our week. When we returned to our classroom to re-group before dismissal, Davey said. " This was the fastest day ever! This was the best day in the whole world!"  The overwhelming feelings of happiness and pleasure were shared by all as we gathered together for our daily, closing reflection circle.

Earth Day Assembly

Raji invited PreK to join the Kindergarten and third graders in singing an Earth Day song at assembly. The older children had been working together for quite a while, and Raji had the wonderful idea of bringing the younger children into this special community experience. Raji's gifts of music are felt the minute he brings children together and he has the magic of working with large groups of children where everyone feels part of the experience. Raji first worked with our class alone for a music introduction and suggested we join for additional rehearsals with the larger group.

It was fun practicing the song in the Kindergarten classroom with all the other PreK, Kindergarten and third grade students.

Our assembly performance was wonderful! The children were so proud to be included in this 'big kid', Lower School experience. The message of Earth Day was clearly felt in the beautiful lyrics of the song, and the sense of belonging and community was felt by being connected to and part of our very special school....

PreK Visits Raji and Jenny's Kindergarten

Raji and Jenny's Kindergarten class has been studying airplanes and invited our class to visit and share in their learning. We first gathered together on the rug and the kindergartners shared their study with us. We noticed that the classroom had been transformed into a really cool airport and we learned about the different parts of the airport that had been recreated in the classroom. From the station where the boarding passes are given out,to the security of the baggage and the screening areas, to the food stand, to the control tower and ultimately into the amazing airplane ... what a tour we experienced! Each of the kindergarten children had a specific job in one of the airport stations that was necessary to secure our safe flight. The children constructed an incredible , large airplane where they were able to go inside the plane and feel the sensation of flying! A running UTube video of a flight simulation on an i-pad was attached to the outside to the plane window. Peering out of the windows of the plane, the children were then able to feel what it would be like to be in the air.

Each child partnered with a kindergarten friend who gave them a personal tour of the airport. The experience of children teaching children builds self- confidence and a true sense of community. The kindergartners felt great pride in sharing their learning and the connections we observed were heartwarming. Raji played guitar and the children joined together in singing a really beautiful song about flying, peace and joy.
