Our Visit To Woodmere Museum

Our trip to Woodmere Museum was great! We were greeted by members of the museum and welcomed into the beautiful setting. Our guides suggested that we create smaller groups of ten and explained that each group would have a private guide who would assist in the educational program planned. The children had the opportunity to see and learn about abstract art. Our guides prepared a wonderful program that was developmentally appropriate for PreK age students. As we observed various pieces of art work, our guides pointed out important information either about the art or about what the artist was thinking when they created that piece. We noticed that several of the large paintings had common themes of similar shapes and /or color. We talked about primary colors and secondary colors and our guides had several interactive experiences for the children as we looked at each new piece of art.

We gathered as a larger group after our tours in one of the gallery rooms and created our own art. The project focused on shape, size, and color, reinforcing many of the concepts we had spoken about during our tours. Each child was offered a variety of paper shapes, glue sticks and colored paper to create a piece of abstract art of their own.

The children especially enjoyed going on our first field trip in the afternoon , after lunch. Our bus ride home was much quieter than our bus ride going to the museum....
